Wants Vs. Needs

Want --- Someone to watch TV with
Need --- Someone to enjoy TV with

Want --- Someone to chat with
Need --- Someone to talk to

Want --- Someone to care
Need --- Someone to have compassion

Want --- To have feelings again, of any sort
Need --- To care for something

Want --- A reason to...
Need --- For it all to be over

It's not pun-ny.

- Apparently Neil Armstrong used to tell unfunny jokes about the Moon, and follow them up with, oh well, I guess you had to be there.

- I've been seeing a weather girl, thought it'd make a change to date a woman that wasn't always right.

- Facebook is a lot like ancient Egypt. People writing on walls and worshiping cats.

- If Bill Gates had a penny for every time I had to reboot my computer....oh wait, he does.

- My new favorite band is Dog Whistle, you haven't heard them.

- Never hit a man with glasses. Hit him with a baseball bat.

- I was going to get a power-gate for my driveway entrance, but with gate power comes gate responsibility.

- School children shouldn't be separated according to academic ability, it'll only end in tiers.

- I've just bought a new Prince Charles commemorative teapot, it never reigns, but it pours.

- Dyslexic IT technicians wait ages for a USB, then three come along at once.

- Everything is edible, some things though, are only edible once.

- A good sermon should be like a woman's skirt: Short enough to rouse the interest, but long enough to cover the essentials.

- Money can't buy happiness. But it's more comfortable to cry in a Benz than it is on a bike.

- My friends horse will only come out when it gets dark. It's becoming a night mare.

- I wrote a song about a tortilla. It's actually more of a wrap.

- I was once bit by a German Shepard. Then he apologized and even introduced me to his dog.

- I got an e-mail saying: "At Google Earth we can read maps backwards!". I thought to myself: That's just Spam.

- What do you call kids with lisps, born in whorehouses? Brothel sprouts.

- I tried sniffing Coke once, but the ice cubes got stuck in my nose.

- I just found out my new toaster isn't waterproof. I was shocked.

Death Is A New Feeling

Many people have experienced deaths of someone close to them.

Be it a friend in elementary/high school who had cancer. A family member of old age. Or many other options.

Others have never experienced it.

And then Cory Monteith died.

Sure, Cory was 31 years old, and died of a drug/alcohol overdose, but to many teenagers, this was their first idol, who they had an attachment to, to die.

Yes, many other stars have died at young ages, regardless the cause, but I think this one is the first that affects the American youth as a whole.

Whilst Amy Winehouse was 27, her major fan base in America was people in their 20s. The same for Heath Ledger, and Brittany Murphy, all with slightly older fan bases.
Even Aaliyah, who was 22 at the time she died, didn't have the same impact on teenagers in America.

The fact that this happened when schools were out, may be a blessing, since the next time these kids think about it will be late September, when Glee returns for 3 episodes (the third of which will be a Cory/Finn tribute), before going on an indefinite hiatus.

If they had been in school, they would've talked about it a lot more amongst each other, possibly needing some people on hand, to help them though the "difficult times".

The way I see it, by September, most of them won't remember it as strongly, and when Glee returns, they will help remember him for who he was, and help the teenagers of today, move on with them.

100 and Counting!

Wow, I can't believe this is my 100th post (and that I almost wrote episode).

Since the beginning of this blog, I didn't think that was a possibility...of course I didn't think the amount of page views was possible either, but I guess things happen!

Taking a quick peak back over the last 14+ months, I see lots of things that failed early on (anyone remember Tanka Thursdays? or how about a Schedule with specific topics depending on the days...oy.).

I mean, looking at my first "Blog Note", I noticed comments saying that I probably wouldn't last a week, let alone two weeks or even a year+. (Ahem, Altie.)

And then there are the Easter Eggs hidden throughout these pages.

Things like the locations of each post, which has been written about, and how they are either about where the post is talking about, or subtle hints at what I really meant.

Or things listed in the labels, some of them since Day 1, other reminders popping up throughout.

Either way, thanks to the 3 of you that still religiously read this blog, and to the 173 others of you that browse through once in a while!

Anyone think I can't make it to 200?

Mind Your Own Business

People will often ask me: "What are you doing with your life?"

To which I'll reply one of many things, such as: "Classes", "Working", "Partying" or some other nonsensical answer.

But when I say: "Yeah, I take classes from 12:30PM-7:30PM" or "Sure, I work the graveyard shift, from 6PM-6AM", their first question back always surprises me.

When do you daven Mincha? When do you daven Ma'ariv? When do you daven Shachris? When do you make time to learn? Or a host of other questions along the same lines, depending what time slot we are talking about.

How about this: Why don't you learn to mind your own business.

If I choose to daven, that's my issue.

If I choose to do it solo, that's still, my issue.

If I choose not to do it at all...well, I think everyone gets the point by now.

Why does everyone think that my religiousness, is their issue?

I am not talking about family members, who even though it isn't their issue, I could see their reasons for asking.

I am talking about people I haven't seen in a few years, or people I am just meeting for the first time.

While everyone gets curious, and I expect those questions at some point. It's really infuriating when its the first thing that is said to me in conversation.

So as I said before, it's time for people to learn to mind their own business!

The Cost of Companionship

What would you give up for a companion?

Would you give up money? Years off your life? Something else, whatever they may ask for?

No matter what type of companion you need, be it same/opposite gender, same age/older role model, on and on, I often wonder what people might sacrifice to make it happen.

Over time, I have come to realize, I would give up literally everything for companionship of the right sorts.

Among other things:

Someone that I can pick up the phone and call, be it 1PM or 1AM.

Someone that would hang out, be it on a Sunday, Monday, Wednesday or Funday, obviously mutually available times.

Someone to be that shoulder to lean on.

Someone to be the punching bag when the times call for it.

Someone to just call a friend.

An unconditional friend.

No Seriously, "Congrats".

We've all been there.

The friend who suddenly drops off the map, and you just know: "Oh. They must be dating somebody again."

And then a couple of weeks/months later, you hear from them again, as they start up a simple conversation (such as: "Hey, how are things?" or "What's new?"), and at some point, the conversation becomes "BTW, we broke up."

At which point, you respond "Oh, you were dating?", and they vent on you for a bit.

And being the good friend you are, you listen to them, and you let them back into your life, as a friend, until they repeat the scenario again.

But what happens when they drop off the map, and one day, a few months later, you get a: "I'm engaged!!!!" text?

Well. For me. I simply respond: "Congrats."

As now I know, they are coming back again, because they want friends to show up at the wedding, and hopefully give lavish gifts.

But maybe, enough is enough.

"Congrats". I seriously mean it. Congratulations on finding the person you think you are going to marry and spend the rest of your life with.

But I'm tired of your childish games, and that's all I think you'll hear from me.

PS. I think I shared this blog link with the person who this post is referring to. God I hope they still read this.

10,000 Page Views

Not much to say in this post...except that when I started blogging, less than a year ago...I never thought I would have 1,000 page views, let alone 10,000.

So this is just me blowing that little paper horn that people use for New Years, in celebration of a mini milestone.

So thanks for all the reads, people of the internet!

SuperBowl: She Noticed Me!!!

Did everyone see it?! She finally noticed me!

Last night, right in the middle of the halftime show, from across the room, our eyes met, and she blew me a kiss.

BTW, yes, I am talking about Beyonce.

The Dark Side

I sense the Dark Side is lifting its head...and a storm is coming.

A storm that will lead to the war, to end all wars.

One that will bring out the fiercest of all.

And the filth that inhabits the Earth will come crawling out of its hole.

Only to get smitten by the sword that it brandished.

Evil can never win.

Evil shall never win.

Only the strongest will survive.

Ask, and you may learn.

Sometimes people see things, and don't really understand them.

So they either ignore it (and then the next time it comes up, they still don't know, but by then they really should, so it's too late to ask), or they say "I have no idea what this means", but never ask for an explanation.

If people would just ask, there are plenty of us out there that would just answer.

And then you would know :)

Rules, Rules, Rules

If I don't want to play by the rules, who is anyone else to tell me to?

Especially if the rules aren't really rules, but guidelines, that some choose to do, yet others don't.

Maybe your interpretation of the rules are wrong? Or maybe rules truly are made to be broken...

Now I'm differentiating here between "rules" and "laws", laws are obviously to be followed, or suffer the consequences (death, hell, and all that other good stuff).

But if it's a rule, lay off, and let others do as they wish, and if you don't like it, well then, simply walk away, and don't become a pimple on the rump of society.

Your Life Belongs To You

Recently I was talking to a girl, who I had met as a possible "dating prospect", and things seemed to be going fine.

We talked back and forth for a few days, and things seemed all rosy and peachy, and looked like we might actually meet up for a first date.

And then it happened...her friend said something to her that made her think otherwise...and I quote (actual quotations""; and ... where parts were skipped, since they don't pertain to this story):

"I was talking today with someone who is very close to me and knows me very well...I was telling her about you and our conversations...The one thing that she mentioned to me that made me stop and think was that I wouldn't want my kids to grow up with a TV...Does that mean that I will throw out all my dvds and box sets, right now no, but maybe one day..."

Can we dissect this for a second?

One day, she is talking to me, and is fine with all of this, and the next, her friend tells her what she wants for her kids, and she changes her mind.

So first issue: HER FRIEND JUST MADE A LIFE DECISION FOR HER.

Not she making one herself, her friend telling her.

Second issue: She MAY throw out her DVDs and Box Sets one day...May? If you want your kids to grow up without TV, then those box sets will have to go. If you think that they don't have to go, then it's okay for your kids to know about TV shows, in which case, you will probably have a TV/DVD player, and you are right back where you were.

Except not right back where you were, because you told some guy you can't go out with him, because of something a friend told you you want.

Girls. Time for y'all to grow up. And make your own decisions.

It is your life. Take control of it.

And  yes, I have seen all the recent blog posts about girls asking a guy out, and truthfully, screw the stereotypes. If one person likes another person, regardless of the genders, they should ask them out. Because if you can't make a simple decision about going on a SINGLE DATE with another person, how do you think you'll be able to decide harder things later in life?

The First Gay President...Really?

For those that haven't yet heard, Newsweek named President Obama the "First Gay President" this week.

So let me get this straight (get it, "straight"), he comes out in favor of gay marriage, so this makes him a gay president?

Clay Aiken, he would be a gay president.

Rosy O'Donnell, gay president.

Perez Hilton, definitely a gay president.

Barack Hussein Obama, not a gay president.

Personally, I don't think gay's should be allowed to get married. The word "marriage" is for a man and a woman. Let them be called anything else they'd like.

Let them get all the same benefits (no pun intended) as married couples. Health care. Insurance. Etc.

Just save the technical term "marriage" for a man and woman.

How about you? Put aside religious reasons why they shouldn't be doing it, but for those that are, should they be allowed to get "married"?

With Emphasis This Time - Tanka Thursday

Last week I began
A quest to write poetry
But one thing it lacked
Was substance and character
And a voice of discussion

So when writing now
I think of something to voice
And again I can't
But maybe that's much better
To just spew randomness out

Thoughts are misleading
But random sayings say lots
About character
And what the mind thinks about
When forced to put things in words

I'll now hear comments
About needing more saying
And less of: Just words
So for that I say: Forgive
It's hard to write daily posts

I know I brought that
Upon myself to fulfill
But try it, I will
And poetry may die out
Like the Mayans and Incas

Counting syllables
Well, that is the easy part
Its substance that's hard
To put words together while
Still sticking to those limits

So maybe this ends
The fine tradition it was
That my readers know
Better as: Tanka Thursday
Two weeks of it was enough

On that note, I end with a poem I found online, and you'll probably like it better with the picture found here:
Roses are red,
Bacon is also red,
Poems are hard,
Bacon.

Attention Span of a Newt - Musings Monday

With a few blog posts in the books, I've discovered something about blog readers.

They have the attention span of a newt.

They'll read your blog for one post, maybe two or three, and disappear after that.

And unless you talk about specifically the right topic, they'll disappear.

My first few posts, talked about other people, their posts, and things that happen in their lives. And people flocked to them.

And then I went a little different, and wrote a random poem, and other thoughts, and just like that, they've lost interest.

And that's when I realized, the newt scenario.

So, consider Wondering Minds a marsh, and come flocking back, you silly newts!

Because silly newts, the presidency is for mitts!
