Death of the Working Man

For years the way of America was, girl looking for a match would be looking for a working man.

Someone who would be bringing in an income, of any sort, and had an education to himself.

Then the Lakewood Craze hit.

The boys stopped going to college, and started learning 24/7.

Living off Mommy and Daddy's money.

Them, and their wives, and their 17 kids. And 9 grand kids. All living off those parents/grandparents monies.

And now, this is affecting me.

"How?", you may ask.

Well, you are lucky enough for me to tell you.

I am not a "learner".

I went to college. Finished college with a Bachelors Degree, and then went into the workforce.

And because of this life style, I never was able to find a set time to learn every day/week/etc.

Now I am looking for a "shidduch". Be it through friends, or the multitude of money-wasting websites online.

And every girl is looking for the same thing.

A guy who is learning.

If you have an education, and a job, you aren't quite what they are looking for.

Well girls, all I can say is, "I hope Mommy and Daddy have a lot of money to support you through life."

All I can say from my point of view: More of these "sheltered girls" need to go out, get actual educations, and come back to us Working Men.

  1. That is not true. More girls are going to college and understanding the value of a guy who can bring in an income. I don't know where you are looking.

  2. Same here. Where are you looking?

I have always been adamant about dating only men who will work, and I have plenty of other friends who want the same thing. In previous years it was more difficult to come across an employed man, but now they are not so rare.

Get a change of scenery. The gals are ready and waiting.

    1. As I said in the article, friends claim to be looking for me.

And I've tried a handful of online sites, that are all garbage.

    2. Ew. Not online, that sucks.

"Friends looking for you"? Yeah, everyone tells me that. "I have you in mind!" "I always think of you!" In the end, if someone has their own life to take care of first . . .

No worries. The right gal will show up whenever. Just stay pleasant and sunny.

    3. What about meeting girls yourself?

    4. That isn't easy, especially in the Jewish world.

    5. @FrumGeek - It isn't impossible, it depends on the circles you travel in. In the YU world, particularly at campus events, there are numerous planned kosher social events where guys and girls can meet.

I have one friend who married a girl who went on a Simchas Torah Torah Tours trip with.

      We only limit ourselves...

    1. The good news is, the wait is over...the working men have arrived!

Now at your local job site (and no, Supermarket Bagger doesn't count)!

  4. I agree with above comments. I know several great girls who are looking for working boys who are kovea itim, but understand it is their responsibility to bring in the main income. I've actually heard sentiments similar to what Tiki posted. ~**
